Haney Brick & Tile Company opened in 1907, and this museum served as the manager's house. It was fairly common in those days for companies to provide housing for some of their staff on site to provide a dwelling for their family and night time supervision and security.

The plant was situated behind this building (as seen in the displayed pictures) and was located here because of the abundant clay resources and proximity to the CP railway line. Baynes & Horie, Vancouver builders, bought the operation from an earlier small operator to provide bricks for Baynes & Horie projects in Vancouver, particularly the red brick schools like Kitsahlano and Lord Strathcona plus hotels, apartment buildings and commercial structures.

Clinkers are over fired bricks which are a result of a kiln overheating. They look like melted bricks or even melted chocolate. At the museum, and at a few other houses in town, these melted looking bricks were used to build fireplaces.
