Chatwin
Alfred Sr. and Elizabeth Chatwin moved to Hammond in 1898, along with the two youngest children of their extensive family, William and George.
In 1901 their son John H. Chatwin, who had married his wife Mamie in October 1894, left Eden Manitoba, and settled in Port Hammond. John founded the family dairy farm on Sharp Road, which is now 203rd Street. Alfred Jr. was only two years old at the time, and attended the old Hammond School a few years later.
After John died in 1946, soon followed by his wife Mamie, the farm was rented out and the land was gradually sold for building lots.
Alfred Jr. married Betty in 1924, and they had one child, Nancy. In the mid 1940s, the family moved from Hammond to Haney.
From 1945 to 1965, Alfred Jr. worked for Brackman-Kerr, which later became Buckerfields. He was also a charter member of the volunteer fire department from 1945 to 1952. The fire station was located right behind Brackman-Kerr, and consequently Alfred was usually the first to arrive at the station when there was a fire. Alfred was also a member of the Legion and a commissioner with the Parks Department.
Alfred Jr. retired in 1965 and moved to Duncan with his wife Betty and daughter Nancy. Alfred died on March 12th, 1985, at the age of 86 at his home in Duncan.
Nancy Chatwin married Peter McCulloch and they had one child, John.
