Ancient Order of United Workmen

As reported in the Gazette on March 19th, 1925, "The Ancient Order of United Workmen [AOUW] is a Fraternal, Charitable and Benevolent Society or Order, organized for the promotion of the Welfare Social and Fraternal of its Members, and the protection of those dependent upon them."

The Order was originally confined to the territory of the United States. By action of the Supreme Lodge in 1879 it was determined that the Order's Lodges should be extended into the Canadas and British possessions in North America. It was not long before the members in B.C. wished to control their own domestic affairs, so the Grand Lodge of the AOUW of the province of B.C. was organized April 12th, 1892.

In Maple Ridge, the lodge was formed on January 19th 1893.
