Henderson Family
Thomas Henderson was born in January of 1846 in Oxford City, Ontario. He married Margaret Oliver on January 18th, 1866. Margaret was born in rural Ontario in February of 1839. Together they had eleven children; Olive Ada, Francis Martin, Janet Robina, Percy Scott, Agnes Annette, Charles Allan, Walter Sylvester, Margaret Jane, and three more after Margaret, whose names are not known. These last three all died in infancy, and last two were twins. Charles seems to be the only child born in Maple Ridge.
In 1905 Charles Allan Henderson married Catherine Elizabeth Sutherland in Edmonton, Alberta, where the Henderson family lived.
Thomas Henderson lived here with his family for a period of time between 1870 and 1880. He was of sufficient community status to become a member of the first Municipal Council in 1874. From the notes written by James Sinclair, he lived along the Fraser River in the stretch between the foot of Laity and 207th Street in Hammond, and two of his children were in the first class in the district.
